Mera'din 307 Posted August 12 Went to the theatre a couple times this weekend. Saw Trap which was pretty solid. It was an interesting movie overall and Josh Hartnett did a hell of an acting job in it. Movie was better than I was expecting overall. Also saw Borderlands. The reviews are pretty much nailing it. It was not a great movie. Not even sure I'd call it a good movie. Most of the casting choices felt odd, the movie thought it was way funnier than it actually was, and the story felt awkward. I don't even know much about Borderlands and I could tell they royally fucked with things for what seemed like no particularly good reason. Whoever wrote this also felt like they had a passing familiarity with most of the characters, at best. I recall there were some hiccups with production that involved whoever was writing it originally having their name dropped off the credits, and reshoots being done a couple years after it actually wrapped filming by a different director, so I'm guessing all of that is related. XD I went in with pretty low expectations, so it didn't disappoint per se, but it certainly didn't feel like it was even trying to do more than that either. ISO Share this post Link to post
MT 917 Posted September 12 Godzilla Minus One Outside of the first American Godzilla back in the early 2000s, i'd never seen a Godzilla movie before. I quite liked this one, more than I thought I would ISO Share this post Link to post
Tassifox 418 Posted September 12 Saw the new Beetlejuce Beetlejuice sequel. Solid 8/10 overall and it pretty much met my expectations. Not horrible. Spoiler Only real complaint I had is that I think there was just 1 too many bad guy scenarios happening and none of them had any hard difficulty levels of taking care of them in the end. The fake love interest with Astrid was kinda unnecessary, the ex-wife's plot just got left in the afterthought dust even though she had a strong start and good segue of doing some Beetlejuice backstory. Otherwise all the original cast minus Charles was still top notch. I'm glad they were able to use Charles without needing the actor and the practical effects were well done. Great casting for the rest, music was good. I enjoyed it a lot. ISO Share this post Link to post
Mera'din 307 Posted September 22 Beetlejuice Beetlejuice definitely felt like they had 2 movies that they decided to smash into 1. Like, it wasn't even a matter of them not having quite enough story for either. Those were two potentially full length movies that could have each been solid in their own right and they just went 'fuck it' and squished them both into one 2 hour movie. X_x Spoiler Also, Betelgeuse kind of got the shaft in that movie. Like, he may be a bit of a dick, but he absolutely did everything he promised to on good faith, and Lydia getting out of the contract was the obvious outcome, but also banishing him feels like a dick move. The child in me wanted them to buddy up and segue into something akin to what the animated series was back in the day. XD 1 ISO Share this post Link to post
h2ojunkie 96 Posted September 24 Took the kids to see Transformers One yesterday. It's was a fun movie to watch going in blind without any idea what it was. ISO Share this post Link to post

XD Agreed, there was too many "baddies" that I think were overlapping and didn't have any strong confrontation that made the end solutions feel just kinda meh. Especially when they had a strong beginning with the Dead Ex and she became an afterthought at the end. Other than that I gave it a solid 8/10 Spoiler The fake love interest for Astrid I think wasn't needed in there. Pretty sure they could have found a way to get her to the Neitherworld without the ol bait n switch. While banishing him might have felt like a dick move, I think it might have been since she was so traumatized of having him nudge at her mentally when she didn't have her meds to shut him and other deadites out on top of all he did when she was younger that she said 'fuck that'. So might be why they didn't go that route of making the animated series cannon. But like you pointed out they had too much jagged bits of story to throw in there that could have been something they just couldn't flush out better. Funny enough I'm re-watching the animated series because Tubi has it on and I forgot how much I missed this. And also how much better their budget was for the Opening animation by season 4 XD 1 ISO Share this post Link to post
