Like 2-3 weeks ago, when WWE finally decided to put some people in the crowd like AEW has been (it's been NXT wrestlers/PC recruits)... they also put up plexiglass boards on the barrier, think like a hockey rink. 

 

I guess for protection again potential bodily fluids coming off the wrestlers? (In theory?) 

 

If nothing else, it's made for some cool light reflections as well as giving the crowd the chance to bang on them for noise, much like in hockey
