2024 Seasonal Anime

The series itself came out....I wanna say last year? but the current 2nd part of S2 was the most recent addition and just have tissues ready for that ending if you haven't gotten there yet.

That is exciting and unexpected! It has been so long since I read the manga. Hardly remember anything about the story, if I’m being honest  But I’m hyped for it anyway

I watched the first episodes of Tower of God and Mayonaka Punch this week.

 

I’m struggling to remember what the heck is going on in Tower of God, but I’ve got the gist of it. Characters started to look familiar even though I could not remember any names

 

Mayonaka Punch is goofy and certainly an original premise. The main character is really not likeable at all though IMO. I will give it two or three more episodes but I might drop it. 
 

Also! I have no clue how I missed this, but The Elusive Samurai got an anime this season! I have added it to my watch list and I will watch the first episode tonight

Still feeling pretty confused watching Tower of God but I am enjoying it nonetheless. Viole is Baam, right???    
 

Mayonaka Punch has had a couple moments but overall is falling a bit flat for me. Probs keep watching it anyways.

It’s been great. Really good. Very cinematic at times. The sound, the animation, the voice acting. I am really enjoying it. I think it makes me feel nostalgic for something, like it feels like something I would have loved watching as a kid. It’s a big winner for me this season. 
 

Unrelated: I am still very confused by Tower of God. This week’s episode at least brought back familiar characters from the first season, but more explanation is needed.

Any of you folks been watching Dead Dead Demons DeDeDeDe Destruction? (Let's just refer to it as DDDD from here on out! )

 

What a trip this thing is. It started out a bit slow, but then eventually takes some wild turns. It's an interesting mix of drama, sci-fi, some more atmospheric and almost slice-of-life-y elements, and some amusing humour sprinkled in as well. It's a vibe.

 

Apparently the anime is an adaptation of a two-part movie series (with the movies based on a manga that ran from 2014-2022). It's supposed to be 18 episodes. It's up to #12 now, so there's still time to get on board and catch up before it ends. I just started watching it a few days ago and I binged through all the available episodes real fast.

Yeah that made it look awesome  The first couple of episodes were especially good, but I have not noticed a major drop off in animation quality since then. I love the style and colours. It feels just a bit aged, but in a good way.

Coming down to the end of the Summer season now. This has got to be the slowest our seasonal thread has ever been. @Tassifox @Eizan where are you be!?

 

I enjoyed the ending of Mayonaka Punch. It was a goofy show. Started slow but then found a stride after a few episodes. It was a pretty original idea.

 

DeDeDeDe wrapped last week but I still haven't watched it as I was out of town last weekend. I mistakenly thought there was one more episode tonight, so I was going to watch both tonight. Guess I am only watching one episode tonight..! I am really not sure how it's going to end, but I'm excited to see what happens. 

 

The Elusive Samurai will finish up tomorrow night -- hopefully with the announcement of a second season soon following it. I have last weekend's episode saved, so the kiddo and I can watch episodes 11 and 12 tomorrow night  This is no doubt my Anime of the Season. (DeDeDeDe comes in a close second place)

 

Last thing on my list is S2 of Tower of God. I am not sure how long it's going to go. Is Sunday night's episode the last or will it continue into the Fall season? Dunno. MAL says it's unknown

I’ve got a few things on my list for the fall:

• Dandadan — I’ve been curious about this title in Jump for a while now. If the anime hooks me then I’ll catch up on the manga (~170 chapters) afterwards.
• Ao no Hako (Blue Box) — Same story as Dandadan, I’ve been meaning to check it out in Jump for a while now. Could be fun. I think Netflix has this one. 
• Ranma — A new anime adaptation seems worth a look! MAPPA does good work. I think this will also be on Netflix. 

Looks like Tower of God S2 is continuing into the fall, so I’ll stick with it as well. The last couple episodes haven’t been terrible.

I watched the first episode of Dandadan last night. That was something else! It's a winner. It's tempting to start binge reading the manga right away... but I'll try to stick with just the anime until the end of the season, and then really sink my teeth into the manga.

 

I also watched the first episode of Blue Box on the weekend. It wasn't really what I was hoping it would be. Oh well. Might give it another chance later on if I get bored enough. Maybe I'm passing judgement too soon  

 

I guess this season I'm only watching Dandadan, Ranma 1/2, and the continuation of Tower of God S2.

I already bought the first two volumes of Dandandan a good while back because I really liked the first couple chapters but didn't want to read on the website all the time. Of course, now there's an anime and the manga is available on the app, but I think I might still try to start by reading my volumes. We'll seez though.

Dandadan is really good. Can’t believe I slept on it for so long! 
 

I am also super enjoying the Ranma 1/2 remake. 
 

That is all I need to count this as a really good season

 

(I’m still watching Tower of God S2 as well, but that’s almost more out of a sense of duty than for enjoyment )

I caved and started watching DanDaDan because I figured my girlfriend would like it. Looks I'll be roughly keeping up with it going forward. I love the OP. Everything else is incredible as well. Animation is other-wordly.

Dandadan is total quality. Like flawless. Watched the third episode last night. Still loving it.
