I really wanted to like Dirge of Cerberus because I'm such a mark for Vincent. Back when I used to RP a lot, I'd use him as an avatar. Or even played him in some AOL Final Fantasy RP chat rooms. But you said it: it's just mediocre. The story stuff was cool, and I was happy Yuffie and Reeve had a spotlight in it. But the gameplay just wore thin so quickly.

FF7 is probably the game I've replayed the most (never go over 2 or 3 with anything usually but have played through FF7 a good 6+ times at least), but it's been a solid 15 years at this point since I have so I think I'm good for replay finally. XD As for the rest of the FFVII stuff, I love me some Advent Children though it's actually starting to look dated now compared to Remake (seeing Barrett especially). Crisis Core was a pretty solid game. I actually still have it on the PSP (though I'm not 100% sure my PSP actually still work. >_> ). Dirge of Cerberus was interesting enough, but it got pretty awkward at times (gameplay was pretty mediocre overall). We never did get any kind of port of Before Crisis though. That seems like it was mostly AVALANCHE faffing about vs Shinra/The Turks though from what I recall. May have been an influence for some of the new story stuff in Remake honestly. Really surprised they didn't bother rerelease/remaster CC and DC though by this point.

Up until last week, I was playing Smash quite a bit. Unlocked all the characters, beat Classic Smash with as many characters as I care to... I tried but I can't really get into the World of Light thing. I've done a chunk of it, but it feels tedious to me. So enough Smash for me for a while. This week I got back into some Street Fighter (30th Anniversary Collection). No way I wasn't going to play some Street Fighter after I finished watching High Score Girl. I remember being kinda good at the games a long time ago. Now, not so good Thankfully the difficulty is adjustable I snagged Songbird Symphony on sale recently so I should give that a go this weekend if I have some gaming time. I think it's a fairly short game. And all this Final Fantasy talk lately has got me sort of in the mood for FF7. If Squeenix has a publisher sale on the eShop any time soon then I will succumb and start replaying it.

It's been 90% Animal Crossing, and 10% American Truck Simulator for me these past few weeks. I started in on the FFVII Remake but only got past the first "boss" battle before stopping. I planned on starting it up again last weekend but didn't. Maybe this weekend.

I miss Flying Witch, some very "uwaaaaaaaaaaaa~" moments in it One of the recent arcs had to do with what was functionally emotional and physical child abuse. I could see Stain being scary for kids but mileage may vary on that. I'd lean "no" but it's not it's not so far out that it'd be a hard no, I guess, a lot of Boku no Hero is uplifting YOSHHHHHHH and some of it is super-cute Edit: I guess also it depends how the dub handles it because I assume you watch dubs with them?

I've been watching Flying Witch with the kiddo this week, it's a nice and relaxing slice of life that seems to be kid friendly so far (4 episodes in). You guys think Boku no Hero Academia would be good for a 9 year old? I was thinking about adding that to our queue. She's already watching basically everything Pokemon (that is on Netflix), and we will be following Digimon when it comes back. The thought of starting from the beginning of Dragon Ball has crossed my mind, as she watched quite a bit of Super with me and the Broly movie, but I dunno... that's a lot of episodes if we do DB and then Kai. I'm probably not up for it.

The pre-rendered backgrounds, some of the sound effects, how they handled the comedic parts, the random mini-games - Surprised at how memorable the music was, I'd only played this game part-way through once like 10-15 years ago and I remember a lot of the tracks - Definitely one of the best Final Fantasy settings I've played. Guns, planet-destroying corporations and other '90s edgy shit - Was way more into the story this time. Back in the day I really dug the stuff with Shinra and thought the Sephiroth stuff bogged the game down because everything basically degenerated into "Let's just follow Sephiroth" (I still thought part of the post-Midgar stuff was bogged down by this) but I miss those over-complex-just-to-be-complex JRPG storylines and some of those plot twists got me WHOA-ing - Good cast of characters. Cid's my favourite, I even managed to start caring about Cait Sith and I wasn't expecting that to happen - Mostly liked the ease and customization of the Materia System, but I hate "All" Materia being necessary and limited - Fucking loved Limits - I hated how some of the bosses and some of the late-game harder monsters would basically one-shot a party member or smash your HP down to nothing before you have a chance to do anything, it's cheap, especially with old-school no save-points and no-fast-forwarding cut-scenes. - Super Nova is obnoxious as fuck - The mini-games didn't do that much for me. I recognize they're a solid addition to games like this in that era but these days they're just shallow, control badly, and are annoying to suddenly be thrust into if they have a one-time reward and you don't know how to play them or how they handle. - I didn't really side-quest at all, saving the 100% run for the PS4 port/Trophies

Yeah that's what I said. It IS indeed generic advice. I'm saying there isn't anything specific, it's all shit people see discussed and then run away with having little to no understanding what they are regurgitating (huge game of telephone).
