I claimed the trunk of an old cedar tree that came down at the gardens I used to work at. I thought it'd fun to carve this pretty pink nice smelling wood into a floral horrible bludgeoning instrument. I got a basic shape down and abandoned the project for the better part of a decade.
My workplace contains a wood shop so I decided any prolonged belt sanding should happen there and got the shape finalized and from there I planned detail carving.
Between bowing and poor storage I got a split and radial asymmetry. I filled the split with shellac and oriented my design to front weight the heavy end. I drilled a hole through the end of the handle because I thought it would be nice to string some charms on a braided cord through it.
I sanded off the excess filler and further carved the end of the handle. I've hit a point where I should stick to hand tools on the head. Thinking of I laying some stones in the space below the curl like in my old wooden mask.
