Final Fantasy V - Four Job Fiesta

Still having fun, so I'm still playing Run #4's job progression is Monk -> Berserker -> Ranger -> Ninja. I just skipped the Zerker since I've had enough of them this summer. Ninja will have plenty enough fire-power to beat NeoExdeath, I'll just need to get the luck factors to line up. Not being able to equip a Ribbon or the Aegis Shield leaves me vulnerable to Petrify and Death... but all it takes is a few good dice rolls in a row to get past that silliness and then it will be an easy win. So far this Fiesta I haven't had too much overlap in jobs from run to run: #1 Blue Mage / Berserker / Summoner / White Mage #2 Thief / Berserker / Beastmaster / Dragoon #3 White Mage / Summoner / Geomancer / Dancer #4 Monk / Berserker / Ranger / Ninja All I'm missing are: Knight and Black Mage for the Wind Crystal; Red Mage, Time Mage, and Mystic Knight for the Water Crystal; Bard for the Fire Crystal; and Chemist and Samurai for the Earth Crystal. Just enough for two more playthroughs if I feel like throwing the remaining jobs in a randomizer and putting together two more teams

What is the most vital program on your PC?

It's the web browser for sure (Firefox). On my laptop provided by work then I guess the most vital program is the VPN client to connect to our server, and then once I'm logged in it's the ERP software, Outlook, and Excel (ugh) that I spend all of my time in. When I had more time for hobby projects, I'd always have Emacs running on my MacBook with something to work on, and I'd spend quite a bit more time in the terminal. But really these days my MacBook is more of a paper weight than anything else. I spend the whole day on a computer at work when I'm not travelling or out on sales calls. Evenings/weekends I try to keep away from my computer. Any browsing/emailing/messaging I need to do can be accomplished on my phone. My MacBook Air is a 2013 or 2014 IIRC, still going strong, but whenever it kicks the bucket, I'm not sure if I'll even bother to get another laptop of any sort.
  4. Masks are still a tough sell for quite a few people up here too. I don't see what the big deal is, but I have also lived in Asia for several years where it is totally normal and common to see people wearing masks everywhere even if there isn't an illness going around. It's not a big deal. But apparently many North Americans don't see it the same way.

Final Fantasy V - Four Job Fiesta

Run #3 (solo run #2) is in the books. Many people do not like the Dancer, but it is one of my favs. Certainly not a "best in game" kind of job, but the randomness and risk vs reward of the Dance command is so fun (if at times also frustrating). When you're setup with the right items at the end of the game, Sword Dance does 9999 damage every single time. I never get tired of seeing that When I got to the final boss I was short on HP so I had to grind up a few levels to get over 2800 HP total to survive Exdeath's Flare and Holy spells. Once I was lucky enough to dodge his pesky Meteor spell, I got into the battle with NeoExdeath and finished him off on the first try

The Great Londish American Zoom Meetup

I love drinking at noon, and then all through the afternoon. Of course drinking in the evening is good too.
  9. I would offer to be a mod but I already spend enough time breaking up arguments at home between my wife and 9 year old
  10. A separate forum will definitely make it easier for people who don't care about political discussions to ignore them.
  11. The big catch-all threads become hard to follow after a while (unless we can improve the board's search tools or do something else to make it easier to browse and participate in threads that are many pages long) I don't think it's necessary to limit the number of threads. I'd rather see more threads each focusing on different issues. It won't make a difference of there are one or 100 politics threads, we still need to be tactful and nice to each other even if we disagree. Anything that really goes of the rails can be cleaned up by a moderator.

    Spring Anime 2020

I feel asleep during an episode last night, that's usually the kiss of death for an anime for me... but I'll give it another shot anyways.

    Spring Anime 2020

Alrighty, I guess it'll go on my watch list then I also checked out the first episode of Dorohedoro on Netflix a couple nights ago when I couldn't sleep. I think that was from the Winter season...? Pretty weird, but I think it's the kind of weird I like. I'll give it a couple more episodes for sure.

BNA is supposed to hit Netflix on Tuesday. Did you keep watching? Did it turn out to be any good?

Final Fantasy V - Four Job Fiesta

My next run is a Team 750 (magic jobs) run that I'm doing solo again. Just got to Galuf's world and about to do battle with Gilgamesh on the big bridge. My job progression has been White Mage -> Summoner -> Geomancer -> Dancer.

Final Fantasy V - Four Job Fiesta

Done at level 52 I had to get lucky on one Grand Cross that fortunately didn't insta-death my character, but once I got rid of the part that casts Grand Cross it was quite simple. Stay healed and chip away until you win.

Final Fantasy V - Four Job Fiesta

My solo run is moving along quite nicely now (it was a quiet day at the office ) It's been smooth sailing since I got to Galuf's world. My lonely character is level 50 now in the final world, pretty much ready to make the jump into the Cleft of Dimension, though I might want to grind out a couple more levels first. Sullla beat his solo Dragoon game at level 56, so that's kinda the benchmark I'm playing against here. (But he didn't have the benefit of picking up other job's skills along the way like I have) Dragoon isn't the most sexy job in the game, but Jump sure works well - and it's great being able to equip all of the heavy armor. Having the Beastmaster skills in my back pocket, as well as Steal/Mug from the Thief, helps too. I think the only obstacle I have left is stealing a Dragon Spear from a Crystal Dragon in the Void. It's a rare steal and they are tough monsters to take out. Gonna have to try to steal and then flee (probably a lot of times) until I land one.

    Summer Anime 2020

I will for sure continue watching Fruits Basket, and if Digimon comes back then the kiddo and I will be all over it. We will also keep watching Major 2nd if it continues through the summer. (There wasn't a new episode last weekend ) I will check out: - The God of High School: is this another Crunchyroll production? I have been quite impressed with Tower of God so far - Deca-Dence: I'm sure you all know my M.O. by now, anime original, hopefully just 12 or 13 episodes, yadda yadda yadda. Hopefully it's a decent sci-fi story There is another anime original (Gibiate) set in the future where a virus has infected people throughout the world which will probably be terrible but I might have to take a look

    Anime of the Season

It's that time again. A season ends and about a week later a new season begins. There's something I find very satisfying about finishing a show and then removing it from my Crunchroll queue / download list. It's like finishing a book. So: What was your Anime of the Season? Was there a clear cut winner? If not, post a short list of your favourites. What did you like best about your favourite anime this season? Spring 2019 - go!

[06/20/20] Weekly What Are You Listening To?

A lot of Rush the last few days, been contemplating buying a Rickenbacker 4003 bass lately - very similar model to the Ric 4001 bass Geddy Lee is most associated with, even if he hasn't really played a Ric that much in the last couple decades. If I pull the trigger on it then those old school Rush tunes are really going to since when I play them (though they already sound great on my jazz bass) Also lots of Miles Davis

    Spring Anime 2020

Gonna watch it tonight, I've been very curious about what will happen, if they're gonna give us more background story, etc. Just looked it up and the manga has been in serialization since 2015, still running (unclear if monthly or weekly). If this first anime run is popular then we might be in for the long haul here. Hopefully it won't take as long to all play out as Attack on Titan (Speaking of AoT, I am up-to-date on the manga and the shit that will go down in the final season of the anime is nuts. I think we're only a few chapters away from the manga ending now)
